Coffin Fellowships for Family Law

There are now two attorneys serving as Coffin Fellows providing a full range of family law services for low-income residents of Cumberland County. These two-year fellowships are named for Senior Judge Frank M. Coffin, whose tireless and effective efforts on behalf of legal services for low-income Maine residents have done much to revitalize the programs of Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Legal Services for the Elderly, the Volunteer Lawyers Project and the University of Maine Law School Legal Aid Clinic.

The Fellowship positions are funded through the Maine Bar Foundation by the generosity of private law firms in Cumberland County. The two Coffin Fellows are housed with the Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Portland, and provide family law assistance to low-income clients referred for representation by the Volunteer Lawyers Project.
