Who We Serve

VLP provides help to low-income people with civil legal problems being handled by Maine Courts. Clients must meet federal financial eligibility guidelines; our typical client has a household income below 125% of the federal poverty level. Clients must also meet citizenship requirements established by the federal government. We are unable to serve incarcerated people.

VLP clients come from all backgrounds and walks of life - children, grandparents, people with disabilities, people working hard to make ends meet, veterans, business owners, students and retirees. We help people with legal issues including: family law matters, bankruptcy, foreclosure, housing, public benefits, Social Security Disability, unemployment compensation, contracts and other matters. We do not provide help with criminal matters, including drunk driving (OUI) and traffic violations.
