Domestic Violence Pro Bono Panel

What is the Domestic Violence Pro Bono Panel?

The Domestic Violence Pro Bono Panel is a collaborative project coordinating the delivery of free legal representation by private attorneys to unrepresented victims of domestic violence who are seeking final protection orders in Maine District Courts.  Panel attorneys work closely with court advocates from our partner domestic violence agencies. The Panel was launched in 2005 in the Portland and West Bath District Courts.

Volunteers are expected to attend a training focused on working with victims and survivors before volunteering with the Panel. Opportunities to shadow experienced attorneys and to receive additional training are available through the project. We are seeking volunteers who will commit to taking three PFA cases per year.  We welcome experienced trial attorneys, but also encourage newer attorneys to join the panel.  For more information about the Panel, please contact Juliet Holmes-Smith at 400-3270 or Rachelle Parise at 774-8211 ext. 1275.
