Get Legal Help
The Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project provides free help with civil (non-criminal) legal problems.
You must qualify as "low income." We help people who live in Maine. We can also help you if you live in another state and have a legal problem being handled by a Maine court. (Go here to find free legal help in other states.)
We work closely with other Maine civil legal services providers. Each program has its own areas of expertise. VLP specializes in assisting individuals with:
- Family law matters including divorce, child support and child custody
- Consumer law matters including personal bankruptcy and foreclosure
- Benefits matters including Social Security and unemployment compensation
- Personal injury, real estate and tax law
Please note: VLP cannot provide help with criminal problems, drunk driving (OUI) cases, and traffic violations.
Contact VLP as soon as you think you have a legal problem. The earlier you contact us, the more help we are able to give you. Even if you are not sure that your problem has a legal solution, call VLP to find out what to do.
